Andrew Dickinson

Samling Artist Programme: 2011

Andrew hails from Liverpool and graduated from the Royal Academy Opera School in 2011. He recently won the 2014 UK Wagner Society Competition‚ the Maureen Lehane Competition at the Wigmore Hall‚ the Hampshire Young Singer of the Year in 2011 and the Dvorak Society Award in the same year. He began his training in Glasgow at RCS‚ graduating in 2008 and whilst studying also became a Samling Artist as well as a Britten-Pears Young Artist.

Forthcoming appearances include Frank in Magna Carta – The Freedom Game at the Royal Albert Hall‚ Hadji Lakmé with Opera Holland Park‚ Dancairo Carmen with Scottish Opera and Flute A Midsummer Nights Dream at the Hyogo Performing Arts Centre‚ Japan.

Recent operatic roles include Tom Rakewell The Rakes Progress (Bury Court Opera)‚ Rinuccio Gianni Schicci (Opera Bohemia)‚ Gerhard in H.K Gruber’s Gloria – A Pigtail (Bregenz Festspiel)‚ Ernesto Don Pasquale (Opera Project)‚ George in Matthew Herbert’s The Crackle (ROH)‚ Male Chorus The Rape of Lucretia (Glyndebourne)‚ Lenski Eugene Onegin (Bury Court Opera)‚ Albert Albert Herring (Royal Academy)‚ Raoul de St Brioche The Merry Widow (Scottish Opera) and Ferrando Così fan tutte (Clonter Opera).

Andrew has sung Handel’s Messiah as a soloist across Central and Eastern Europe‚ including venues such as Stephansdom Cathedral in Vienna and the Lizst Academy in Budapest. Other highlights include Bach’s B Minor Mass in Italy‚ Elgar’s The Apostles in Glasgow‚ Mendelssohn’s Elijah in Jordan‚ Britten War Requiem at Dunblane Cathedral and Bach’s St Matthew Passion at Canterbury Cathedral.

Since 2009 Andrew has been working on a new Music Festival in his home village of Rainhill, near Liverpool. The Rainhill Music Festival is a week long series of concerts, masterclasses, workshops and competitions, all with the aim of giving young people a platform to perform. Please visit to find out more.
