Carla Caramujo studied at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama where she completed her Bachelors, Opera course and Masters Degrees in Music Performance with Distinction. Her teachers included Laura Sarti and Patricia MacMahon. She won first prizes in a number of competitions including the Luisa Todi National Singing Competition (Lisbon), Chevron Excellence Award, Ye Cronies Award and Dewar Award (UK) and at the Musikförderpreis der Hans-Sachs-Loge (Nürnberg). Carla is also a Samling Artist.

Carla Caramujo made her début at the Teatro Nacional de São Carlos, Lisbon’s Opera House as Gilda in Verdi’s Rigoletto and, since then, she’s been invited back to sing Donna Anna in Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Clorinda in La Cenerentola and Contessa di Folleville in Rossini’s Il viaggio a Reims, Lisette in Puccini’s La Rondine, Adele J.Strauss’ Die Fledermaus and Sandman and Dew Fairy in Hänsel und Gretel by Humperdink. Her operatic repertoire also includes Adina in Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore (Teatro da Trindade, Lisbon), Violetta in Verdi’s La traviata (Festival de Sintra, Portugal), Fiordiligi Mozart’s Così fan tutte (Opera Norte, tour in Portugal), Madame Herz in Mozart’s Die Schauspieldirektor (Orquestra do Algarve/ Acta Portugal), Fata Azzurra in Respighi’s La bella dormente nel bosco (Casa das Artes, Famalicão, Portugal), Nena in Pergolesi’s Lo frate ‘nnamorato, la Jeunesse in Destouches’ Le Carnaval et la Folie, 2nd woman and 2nd witch in Purcell’s Dido & Aeneas and Vespina F.A. de Almeida’s La Spinalba (Os Músicos do Tejo/ CCB, Gulbenkian in Lisbon and Festival Are-more in Vigo). Valetto in Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea, Armida in Händel’s Rinaldo (Traverse Theatre and Festival theatre, Edinburgh), Flight Controller in Jonathan Dove’s Flight (New Atheneum theatre, Glasgow), She in Douglas Templeton’s Night Square (GSMD) and the Soprano part of Lady Sarashina by Peter Eötvös. Carla created the role of Salome in the world premiere of O Sonho by Pedro Amaral with the London Sinfonietta at The Place (London) and at the Gulbenkian (Lisbon).

Carla Caramujo has sung concerts at the Centro Cultural de Belem and the Gulbenkian in Lisbon, as well as at many major Portuguese music festivals. She has also performed in major venues in the UK, Germany, the Czech Republic, Mexico, Uruguay and Argentina. Her concert repertoire includes Mozart and Brahms’ Requiem, Bach’s Magnificat, Händel’s Messiah, Mozart’s C minor and coronation Masses, Beethoven’s Mass in C and Symphonie nr.9, Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana, Haydn and Pergolesi’ Stabat Mater, Mozart Concert Arias (including Vorrei, sipegarvi, oh Dio! K418), Salvador Pueyo’s Cap al meu  silenci, Pedro Camacho’s Requiem Inês de Castro and the world première of Lua, canção de uma morte by Nuno Côrte-Real. She sang several opera galas including at the TNSC with Vesselina Kasarova and presented the complete songs by Mozart in a recital at the Sodre in Montevideo, live broadcasted by the classical radio in Uruguay.

Recently Carla sang in the production Un Moto di gioia, Mozart Concert Arias by Anne Teresa De Keersmaecker with the Portuguese National Ballet (CNB) and Divino Sospiro, baroque orchestra.
