Charlotte Stephenson trained at the Royal Northern College of Music and at the Royal Academy (graduating in 2009) and is continuing her studies with Anne Mason. She was a Samling Artist and held a Fellowship Award from Independent Opera in 2009/10.
Charlotte scored a considerable success in her recent operatic debuts as Annio in La Clemenza di Tito for English Touring Opera and Valetto in The Coronation of Poppea with Glyndebourne Touring Opera, as well as covering Nancy Albert Herring for Opera North. Her other operatic projects have included Kate Pinkerton/Cousin Madam Butterfly for Mid Wales Opera, Fillide Aminta e Fillide for the London Handel Festival, Minsk Woman Flight and Gertrude Romeo and Juliette for British Youth Opera, Neighbour Mavra (Stravinsky) for the Glyndebourne Jerwood Project and Dido Dido and Aeneas with the Hayfield Ensemble.
Charlotte also sang Hansel Hänsel und Gretel (cond. Sian Edwards), Celia La Fedelta Premiata (cond. Trevor Pinnock), Vava Cheryomuski (cond. Dominic Wheler) and Diana/Giove in Diana La Calisto (cond. Anthony Legge) for Royal Academy Opera, and Tisbe La Cenerentola, Suzy La Rondine and Devil The Soldier’s Tale whilst at the RNCM.
As a concert soloist she has sung much of the standard oratorio repertoire, including the Elgar’s The Dream of Gerontius with the Manchester Camerata, Bach’s B Minor Mass at the Spitalfields Festival and at Salisbury Cathedral, Bach’s St John Passion in Southwark Cathedral, the Mozart Requiem at St. Martin in the Fields and St. John’s Smith Square and Mozart’s C-Minor Mass at the Cadogan Hall.
Charlotte has already made her debut at the Wigmore Hall in a Song Circle lieder recital and given recitals at Foundling Museum in London (Mahler’s Ruckert Lieder) and at the Pump Room in Bath (English song).
