Sicillian-born mezzo-soprano Ginger Costa-Jackson recently “created a woman whose joie de vivre could destroy any man in her path.” (TCO Debut) As the New York Times observes, “Ginger Costa-Jackson is a ravishing mezzo-soprano from Italy…Her voice has dark, rich colorings and considerable body.” She has appeared at many of the world’s most important opera houses and music festivals.

2014-15 is an exciting year for Ginger with engagements including: Vancouver Opera debut in the title role of Carmen, a reprise of El Gato con botas with Gotham Chamber Opera, Grand Rapids Opera debut as Carmen, Metropolitan Opera roles of Mercedes in Carmen and Lola in Cavelleria Rusticana (HD production). Austin Lyric Opera debut is on the horizon with a role to be announced soon.

Recent highlights of the past two seasons include Metropolitan Opera performances as Smaragdi in Francesca da Rimini and Mercedes in Carmen. In addition cover roles Dorabella in Così Fan Tutte and Meg Page in Falstaff both directed by Maestro James Levine. This past summer Ginger represented The Metropolitan Opera in Russia during a cultural exchange concert series with venues that included Volgograd Opera, Bolshoi Opera, and Catherine’s Palace in St Petersburg. Ginger was also a featured artist in the beloved NYC parks Metropolitan Opera’s Summer Recital Series. Other notable engagements: Virginia Opera debut as Carmen, the title role debut of Marchesa di Poggio in Verdi’s Un Giorno di Regno (King for a day) with the Glimmerglass Opera Festival, Tri-Cities Opera debut as Carmen in Georges Bizet’s Carmen, Orquesta Sinfonica de Mineria (Prieto) debut as Ursule in Berlioz’s Beatrice et Benedict (Mexico City).

In past seasons Ginger has performed internationally with accolades in various roles. Her mainstage debut at the Metropoliton was as Rosette at the tender age of 21 in Massenet’s Manon. Her European debut was as Lola in Cavalleria Rusticana with the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona. Ginger was hired for her first lead role by Francesca Zambello in 2011 with The Glimmerglass Festival, starring as Carmen in Georges Bizet’s Carmen. She made her San Francisco Opera debut in Nixon in China, sang Marie in Rossini’s Moise et Pharaon with the Collegiate Chorale at Carnegie Hall, and the role of Puss in the 2010 US premier of Montsalvatge’s El gato con botas with the Gotham Chamber Opera. Ms Costa-Jackson’s former Met roles include Nancy T’sang, First Secretary in Nixon in China; Wowkle in La fanciulla del West; Eine Theatergarderobiere/Der Gymnasiast/Ein Groom in Berg’s Lulu; cover for Cherubino in Le nozze di Figaro; Lola in Cavalleria Rusticana; Myrtale in Thaïs. In 2009 she debuted with the San Francisco Symphony as Celia in Gilbert and Sullivan’s Iolanthe. Ms. Costa-Jackson performed Dorabella in Mozart’s Così fan tutte with the Verbier Festival Academy, and Nerone in Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea with the International Institute of Vocal Arts
