Jared Holt was born and raised in New Zealand where he completed a Bachelors degree in Classics and a Law Degree with Honors in addition to opera, oratorio and recital commitments. In 2000 he won the Mobil Song Quest New Zealand and the Karaviotis Scholarship which enabled him to undertake vocal studies at the Royal College of Music in London studying with Vera Rozsa. He joined the Vilar Young Artists Programme at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in 2003.
Jared was a young artist at the Royal Opera House for two years before commencing his freelance singing career. He has sung principal roles for companies including the Royal Opera House, Glyndebourne Festival, Teatro Giuseppe Verdi Trieste, Opera Australia and Opera New Zealand, together with concert performances with the BBC Proms, the BBC Symphony, and the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra.
He has recorded the role of Melot for EMI and for Warner and sings Demetrius on a performance recording of Britten’s opera version of Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Glyndebourne Festival.
Having settled again in New Zealand, recent performances have included Yamadori in Opera New Zealand’s Madama Butterfly and Handel’s Messiah with the Napier Civic Choir.
Further engagements this year include performances of Brahms’ Requiem, the Baron in La Traviata, Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, and Handel’s Messiah.
