Former Jette Parker Young Artist at the Royal Opera House, pianist Jean-Paul Pruna studied solo piano, chamber music and vocal accompaniment at the Paris Conservatoire before moving to London to study at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the National Opera Studio. He is also a Samling Artist.
When on JPYAP, Jean-Paul played for more than fifteen productions at ROH, working with conductors such as Sir Antonio Pappano, Sir Colin Davis, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Andris Nelsons, Bertrand de Billy.
He worked for Cape Town Opera on their production of Otello and concert version of Lucia di Lamermoor conducted by Sir Richard Bonynge, on Die Entführung aus dem Serail for Garsington Opera, the Barber of Seville and the Pearlfishers for Nederlandse Reisopera, La Clemenza di Tito and Il Re Pastore for Classical Opera Company. Jean-Paul returns to ROH to play the celeste in Turandot and to play for rehearsals of El Gato con Botas (Montsalvatge). He also joins the team of Aix-en-Provence Festival for Ariodante.
Jean-Paul gives numerous concerts across Europe and South Africa: song recitals at ROH Crush Room and Paul Hamlyn Hall as well as a tour of Spain with cellist Pau Codina, a staged version of La Voix Humaine for Theatre de Cherbourg, Opera de Lille and Folles Journees in Nantes with Soprano Camille Poul, stage direction by Agnes de Brunhoff. More recently he was repetiteur for Roberto Alagna’s latest recording “Ma vie est in opéra”.
Jean-Paul coaches on the Jette Parker Programme (and recently played for and adjudicated the first round of auditions), at the Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance and for Samling Academy. Recent projects included: Orphée et Eurydice for Reisopera, Alcina for Aix-en-Provence, L’Elisir d’amore for Dorset Opera and L”Enfant et les sortilèges for Samling Academy Opera.
Jean-Paul will undertake a full time job as music staff for the Deutsche Oper in Berlin in August 2015.
