Originally from Belgium, Kris moved to London to study at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and went on to study on the Opera Course at the Royal Scottish Academy. He took part in masterclasses with Dame Felicity Lott, Sir Thomas Allen, Elly Ameling, Graham Johnson, Malcolm Martineau and Emma Kirkby. He was awarded a scholarship to attend the Pacific Music Festival in Japan, where he performed under Nicholas McGeegan and Michael Tilson Thomas.
Concert engagements have included Handel’s Messiah and Israel in Egypt in Reims cathedral, the Bach Passions and B Minor Mass in Stuttgart and Munich, Mozart Requiem at St Eustache in Paris, Rossini’s Stabat Mater and Petite Messe Solennelle, Haydn’s Creation, Winterreise and Lully’s Thésée on European concert tour with William Christie.
His operatic roles include both Count Almaviva Le Nozze di Figaro (Longborough Festival Opera) and Figaro (Brownsea Island Festival), Don Giovanni (Hampstead Garden Opera), Falke Die Fledermaus (International Opera Productions), Fiorello Il Barbiere di Sevilla (Opéra de Rennes, Rouen, Tourcoing), Marcello La Bohème (Oyster Opera), Guglielmo Così fan tutte (Idée Fixe, Brussels), Dandini La Cenerentola (cover for Grange Park Opera), Belcore Elisir d’amore (cover for Grange Park), Marchese La Traviata (Longborough Festival Opera), Mercurio La Calisto (RSAMD), Ramiro L’heure Espagnole (RSAMD), Masetto Don Giovanni (Arts Theatre, Cambridge), Aeneas Dido and Aeneas, Marco Gianni Schicchi (RSAMD) and Thésée in Hippolyte et Aricie for Pacific Music Festival in Japan.
Engagements in 2011/2012 included Angelotti Tosca, and a very successful Blazes in The Lighthouse for the Nationale Reisopera where he also appeared as Marchese La Traviata. Other recent parts included Dancairo Carmen.
Most recently he participated in the mini-opera “Zatopek” together with Liverpool Philharmonic and BBC 3 (programmed within the framework of the Olympic Games in London). Furthermore he will give 3 recitals with Graham Johnson in Israel.
During the current season he appeared in La traviata at ROH La Monnaie. A production stage directed by Andrea Breth, who invited Kris Belligh to take part in the production of The Gambler (Prokofiev) at de Nederlandse Opera Amsterdam (December 2013).
