Miranda Westcott

Samling Artist Programme: 2009

Miranda Westcott read music at Birmingham University and studied performing on English National Opera’s course ‘The Knack’. Her studies continued privately with Jacqueline Bremar before attending the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. She gained a distinction on the M.Mus course in 2005 with Robert Dean as her teacher and became a Samling Artist in 2009. Miranda recently completed eight months intensive work at Dennis O’Neill’s Cardiff International Academy of Voice.

Miranda made her debut at the Royal Opera House in June 2006 as Second Bridesmaid (Il nozze di Figaro) under Sir Colin Davis and in 2007 sang Glasha (Katya Kabanova) under Sir Charles Mackerras. At the ROH she also covered the roles of Schwertleite (Die Walküre), Geneviève (Pelléas et Mélisande) and Masha (Queen of Spades). In January 2009 Miranda performed the role of Jenny Diver (The Beggar’s Opera arg Britten) in the Linbury Studio Theatre, ROH and recorded this for Chandos. She has performed Cherubino, Rosina, Suzuki, Olga, Nourrice (Milhaud’s Médée UK premiere), Tisbe, Rossweise, Kate Pinkerton (Madame Buttefly), Trommler (Der Kaiser von Atlantis), Dido and covered Dorabella, Statira (Vivaldi’s L’incoronazione di Dario), Juno and Smeaton working with companies including Welsh National Opera, Raymond Gubbay, British Youth Opera, Garsington and the Salzburg Easter Festival.

In concert Miranda has appeared at the Wigmore Hall, in the Crush Room series at the Royal Opera House, Sage Gateshead, Shakespeare’s Globe, Oxford Lieder Festival, English Haydn Festival and Canterbury Cathedral.  Miranda also works with London Festival Opera in Europe and beyond.
