Nicola Mills

Samling Artist Programme: 2007

English Soprano Nicola Mills studied at the RSAMD with Patricia MacMahon and on leaving worked as a teacher for 6 years. In 2007 she was chosen by Thomas Allen to participate in Samling Artist Programme with Philip Langridge, and later that year began working for Glyndebourne Festival Opera performing small roles and covers, and also sang in the chorus for two seasons.

Towards the end of 2008 she moved to The Netherlands as a member of the Opera Studio Nederland until 2010. Whilst there she performed the main role in a Handel collaboration with The Combattimento Consort directed by Jan Willem de Vriend and also the role of Second Woman in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas with Opera Zuid and Opera Royal de Wallonie, touring Holland and Belgium. She also worked for De Nederlandse Opera.

Since leaving she has made her debut in Het Concertgebouw in Mozart’s Requiem and returned a few months later to sing Papagena in Die Zauberflöte. She toured The Netherlands with Opera O.T Rotterdam as Branghien in Frank Martin’s Le Vin Herbe and recently performed the role of Donna Fulvia in Rossini’s La Pietra del Paragone for Opera Trionfo, directed by Laurence Dale. On the concert platform she has performed in all the major venues in Holland and recently sang the world premiere of Eybler’s Requiem in the Sint-Janskathedraal (‘s-Hertogenbosch), which was also recorded for Brava Television. Alongside this she sang in the Cristina Deutekom 80th birthday celebrations alongside Eva Maria Westbrook, and also recorded live for Dutch Television. She currently lives in Amsterdam and studies with Charlotte Margiono.
