Winner of the 2009 Kathleen Ferrier Competition, soprano Sarah-Jane Brandon studied at the Benjamin Britten International Opera School at the Royal College of Music, and was a participant on the Salzburg Festival’s Young Singers Project in 2011.

This season, Sarah-Jane will appear as Contessa Le nozze di Figaro in a new production for the Dresden Semperoper, and at the Savonlinna Festival, Finland. She will also appear as Contessa for the English National Opera and for the Aix en Provence Festival on tour in Bahrain; and make her debut with the Budapest Festival Orchestra and Iván Fischer in performances of Die Zauberflöte in Budapest and Abu Dhabi. On the concert platform, she will appear with the Munich Radio Orchestra, the Classical Opera Company and with the BBC Symphony Orchestra.

Sarah-Jane’s recent opera appearances have included Micäela Carmen for the Deutsche Oper, Berlin; Contessa Le nozze di Figaro for Glyndebourne, Opéra de Dijon and Opera-Theatre de Saint-Etienne; Pamina in a new production of Die Zauberflöte for the Opéra de Nice; Erste Dame in Die Zauberflöte at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, and Desdemona Otello for Cape Town Opera.

Her recent concert engagements have included Haydn’s Nelson Mass with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and Yannick Nézet-Séguin; Viennese Gala Concerts with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and Thomas Rösner;  Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis with Sir Roger Norrington; her debut at the Concertgebouw in Mahler’s “Resurrection” Symphony with the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra; and Handel’s L’Allegro, il Penseroso ed il Moderato with Jane Glover and the Mark Morris Dance Group at the Teatro Real, Madrid.

Further highlights include an appearance at La Scala, Milan with Maestro Placido Domingo, Berg’s Sieben frühe Lieder with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and Edward Gardner; Mahler’s Symphony no. 4 with the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Sylvain Cambreling, and appearances at the Edinburgh Festival with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and Sir Andrew Davis; the Mozarteum Orchestra and Ivor Bolton; the London Philharmonic Orchestra with Kurt Masur; the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra with Andris Nelsons, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra with Vasily Petrenko and with the London Symphony Orchestra and Bernard Haitink.

In recital her appearances include Trinity College Cambridge and the Leeds Lieder Festival with Malcolm Martineau; the Musée d’Orsay and Birmingham’s Barber Institute with Simon Lepper and the Wigmore Hall and the Buxton, Hay-on-Wye and Oxford Lieder Festivals with Gary Matthewman.  She features on the Complete Poulenc Edition accompanied by Graham Johnson which was recently released by Hyperion Records . In future seasons Sarah-Jane will return to the Musée d’Orsay and the Wigmore Hall.
