Scottish soprano Shuna Scott Sendall graduated from the Alexander Gibson Opera School at RSAMD, where she studied with Jane Irwin, Clare Shearer and Patricia Macmahon. She has won many prizes, most recently the inaugural BBC Radio 2 Kiri Prize, as well as the Great Elm Vocal Awards, the 2004 Scottish Wagner Society’s Bayreuth Scholarship, and a scholarship to the Lake Placid Institute International Vocal Seminar (New York). She is also a Samling Artist, a Crear Scholar and an alumnus of the Solti Te Kanawa Accademia.

Her many and varied concert appearances have included; Schumann Paradies und die Peri, Mozart C-Minor Mass and Requiem, Verdi Requiem, Beethoven 9, Bach St John Passion, Berlioz Nuits D’ete, Barber Knoxville Summer of 1915, Britten Les Illuminations, Handel Messiah, Rutter Magnificat, Wagner Wesendonck Lieder and performances throughout Britain with her chamber groups ‘écoute’ and ‘éisd’. Shuna is a regular guest on BBC radio, featuring at Proms in the Park, Friday night is Music Night, The Royal Albert Hall and the Chris Evans Breakfast Show.
Shuna was the John Mather Trust Emerging Artist at Scottish Opera 2011/12, for whom she has performed Gertude Hansel and Gretel, Medea The Minotaur, The Aunt Madama Butterfly, Veronique Le Docteur Miracle and The Housekeeper Secret Marriage, Tosca (cover), Santuzza (cover), Berta (cover, Barbiere di Siviglia) and Anna (cover, 7 Deadly Sins).
Recent engagements include performing with NOISE, an exciting new performance company based in Glasgow, in Gareth Williams’ inspiring new opera “The Sloans Project”. Shuna also performed in the premiere of the newly commissioned Flodden by Sally Beamish with Scottish Chamber orchestra.
In 2014 Shuna performed in Glyndebourne Festival Opera’s production of Der Rosenkavalier; and performed the role of La Ciesca in Opera Bohemia’s Gianni Schicchi. She also performed the role of Lady Macbeth in Scottish Opera’s production of Macbeth and in the world premiere of Sally Beamish’s Equal Voices commissioned by London Symphony Orchestra and Royal Scottish National Orchestra.
In 2015 Shuna returned to Glyndebourne performing in their festival productions of Carmen and Poliuto. She will once again perform a Scottish tour with NOISE in Hirda a new opera inspired by the songs, stories, history and heritage of the Shetland Isles. A collaboration between Shetland fiddler and composer, Chris Stout, classical composer Gareth Williams, and librettist Sian Evans.
