Yu Su had a musical upbringing from a young age and moved to England from Wuhan, China, at the age of three with her musician parents. Performing experiences include the bicentenary celebration of Liszt songs with Royal Academy Song Circle, recitals at St Martin in the Fields and Wigmore Hall. In addition, Su accompanies for the Wales International Academy of Voice, National Youth Choir and has worked on opera scenes from Ravel L’Heure Espagnole, Mozart Don Giovanni, Così fan tutte, La clemenza di Tito, La finta giardiniera, Handel Orlando, Donizetti L’elisir d’amore, Beethoven Fidelio, Dove The Little Green Swallow, Puccini Turandot, R.Strauss Capriccio and Ariadne auf Naxos. Su has participated in masterclasses with great artists including Dennis O’Neill, Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, Joseph Rouleau, Nuccia Focile, Rebecca Evans, Nelly Miricioiu, and Della Jones.
Su completed her MA at the Royal Academy of Music, specialising in Piano Accompaniment under the tutelage of Michael Dussek and Tessa Nicholson. Upon graduating, she was awarded the DipRAM for outstanding final recital and subsequently became student répétiteur at WIAV under the directorship of Dennis O’Neill CBE. Currently, Su is on the répétiteur course at Guildhall School of Music & Drama.
During her time at RAM, Su received various accompaniment awards including the Scott Huxley Prize and the Russian Song Accompanist Prize. She is very grateful for the generosity of the Leverhulme Trust and Help Musicians UK who are funding her studies.
