Samling Artist Showcase ‘Sea Pictures’
Programme to include
Jean Sibelius Luonnotar
Edward Elgar Sea Pictures
Gabriel Fauré L’horizon chimérique
Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov By the Sea
Samling Institute for Young Artists presents its annual showcase concert at Wigmore Hall as part of the venue’s Song Recital Series.
Based around song cycles with a maritime theme, the programme includes Rimsky-Korsakov’s rarely performed cycle U Morya (By the sea) and Fauré’s L’horizon chimérique. Sibelius’ Luonnotar and Elgar’s much-loved Sea Pictures are both performed in the composers’ own piano arrangements with Samling Artist pianists Jonathan Ware and Kunal Lahiry providing the rich palette of orchestral colours.
Soprano Madison Nonoa became a Samling Artist in 2019 and makes a thrilling debut at Wigmore Hall singing Sibelius’ virtuosic Luonnotar, based on a Finnish creation myth. She is joined by three exceptional singers who had notable success last year in major competitions – mezzo-soprano Angharad Lyddon who represented Wales in BBC Cardiff Singer of the World, countertenor Patrick Terry who won second prize in the London Handel Singing Competition and baritone Benson Wilson who took first prize in the Kathleen Ferrier Awards.
Tickets £40, £35, £30, £25, £18. Priority booking for Friends of Wigmore Hall is now open, general booking opens on Tuesday 14 July
