Trained as a classical tenor, Paul has also worked as a musical director and choral conductor before specialising in working with the solo voice, which he has now done for 25 years. He trained and studied, as well as interning with and co-teaching courses with Jo Estill and was amongst the first in the world to be licensed by her.

Paul is uniquely qualified as a Specialist Vocal Coach, having been Clinical Vocal Consultant at University Hospital Birmingham for over 16 years and is now an Associate with Harley St ENT.

Having taught at the Royal Academy of Music (RAM), Birmingham Conservatoire and Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama he is currently Vocal Technique Consultant to the Jette Parker Young Artists Programme at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, as well as being vocal coach to some of the world’s foremost opera and concert performers.

Paul has worked with the casts of many West End musicals, and given several live broadcast masterclasses on Spanish TV’s Operacion Triumfo (Pop Idol). He is widely recognised as one of the foremost vocal trouble-shooters in the business, and as such is in demand for workshops and teaching worldwide.

His recent engagements include masterclasses at RAM, with the Choir of New College Oxford, the Don Giovanni Education project for Samling at The Sage Gateshead, as well as presenting courses and workshops in Madrid, Helsinki and Gran Canaria. He was recently an Artist in Residence at Queens University Belfast and forthcoming engagements include masterclasses in Barcelona, Hannover and Milan. This summer Paul was visiting vocal coach to the Ulster Youth Choir and also vocal consultant to the Charles Wood Summer School in Armagh, Northern Ireland, working alongside renowned choral conductor David Hill.

In December, he will make his fourth visit as International Vocal Tutor to Opera New Zealand’s Summer School for emerging artists, and in January 2009 will be Artist in Residence at Waikato University, Hamilton NZ. In July 2009 he has been invited to direct the International Masterclass Programme, for the European Voice Teachers Associations International Symposium in Paris, and has also been invited to work with the Young artists at the Metropolitan Opera in New York and at the Julliard School of Music.
