German mezzo-soprano Maria Hegele has just completed studies at the Royal College of Music Opera Studio under the tutelage of Dinah Harris. She graduated from the University Mozarteum Salzburg, where she completed her Bachelors and Masters Degree under Barbara Bonney.
Maria’s operatic roles include Conception L’heure espagnol, Lisetta Il mondo della luna, Nicklausse Les Contes d’Hoffmann, Hermia A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Mercedes Carmen and Cherubino Le nozze di Figaro. She sang the role of Servant in the world premiere of Thomas Adès’ The Exterminating Angel at the Salzburg Festival. She has participated in masterclasses with Dame Sarah Connolly, Ann Murray, Wolfgang Holzmair, Angelika Kirchschlager and Brigitte Fassbaender.
Maria is a Britten-Pears Young Artist, a Heidelberger Frühling Scholar and a Imogen Cooper Music Trust Scholar. In 2018 she won the first prize at the Claude Debussy chamber music Competition. She is grateful to be a Siow Furniss Scolar supported by the Basil Coleman Opera Award and is also supported by the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben Hamburg.
