Baritone, Samling Artist Programme: 2024

Hector Bloggs is a British baritone, and recent graduate of the Opera Course at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama under the tutelage of John Evans.

Operatic engagements include both Frank and Dr Falke Die Fledermaus and Sir Thomas Bertram Mansfield Park (Guildhall); Fiorello Il barbiere di Siviglia (Glyndebourne and Westgreen House Opera); the title role in Don Giovanni (Saluzzo Opera Academy, Marco Gianni Schicchi  (St Pauls Opera) and Bartolo Le nozze di Figaro (Saluzzo Opera Academy and Hampstead Garden Opera). He was involved in the world premiere of Sky Arts commission, Gods of The Game at Grange Park Opera. In summer of 2023 he covered Silvio and sang in the chorus for Westgreen House Opera’s Pagliacci and Cavalleria Rusticana.

At Guildhall he has performed Sid Albert Herring and scenes from La bohème, The rape of Lucretia, Carmen, Le nozze di Figaro, Pelléas et Mélisande, Don Giovanni, Eugene Onegin, Manon and Die Fledermaus, as well as covering the title role in Judith Weir’s Blonde Eckbert, Il Re La bella dormente nel bosco, Melisso Alcina and Pedro Paramo A Star next to the Moon by Stephen McNeff.

Hector has been involved with various new operas and contemporary music, including Korda An Image of Stars (Sam Meredith) in Spring 2024, Edward Rochester Jane Eyre (John Joubert) at Grimebourne with Green Opera and Father A Sea Story (Will Gardner) at Guildhall. He debuted the solo of When I Was A Boy I Lived Like Water (C. Moore) at Queens University Belfast.

In concert Hector has sung as a soloist for many works, including Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, Faure’s Requiem, Mozart’s Requiem, Carmina Burana and Dvorak’s Stabat Mater as well as Polyphemus Acis and Galatea and Jesus, Pilate and bass Soloist in the St John Passion (J.S. Bach). In Autumn 2023, Hector was the cover for the baritone solo in Belshazaar’s Feast at The Barbican where he has since returned to sing Crebillon and Il Maggiorduomo La Rondine with The London Symphony Orchestra and Sir Antonio Pappano.

In 2021 Hector won first place in the Courtney Kenny Award from the Association of English Singers and Speakers, and in Spring 2024 he won first place in The Keith Bonnington Competition at Guildhall. He was also a finalist in the 2025 Kathleen Ferrier Awards.

During his time at Guildhall, Hector was a Gwen Catley Scholar, funded by the Amar-Franses & Foster-Jenkins Trust and a Drake Calleja Scholar 2024-25. He also became a Samling Artist in 2024.

He is currently back at Glyndebourne in the chorus for La Bohème, as well as performing Il Sargente. He will be singing the baritone solo for Dover Beach (Samuel Barber) as part of the Pit Perfect scheme, and will sing Belcore’s Aria for the Glyndebourne chorus Christmas Concert. He is also a 2026 Opera Prelude Artist. In November, he will be performing in a recital as part of the London Song Festival with a Nigel Foster and Georgina Cohu. In the new year he will be covering Il Conte with Opera North and performing Donne Das Rheingold with The Barbican Sinfonia under Jack Gonzalez-Harding.
