British soprano Maryam Wocial is a member of the Royal College of Music’s International Opera Studio, where she is the Poppy Holden scholar supported by the Martin Harris scholarship. She is supported by the International Opera Awards, the Drake Calleja Trust and is the current holder of the Munster Trust’s Dame Janet Baker Award. Maryam is a Samling Artist, a Josephine Baker Trust Artist, a former Early Career Fellow with the English Concert (2024–25) and was 2nd prize-winner at the 2025 International Handel Singing Competition.

Her operatic roles at the RCM’s Britten Theatre include Sandrina La finta giardiniera, Fox The Cunning Little Vixen, and the Angel in Jonathan Dove’s Seven Angels, as well as Poppea L’incoronazione di Poppea, Ilia Idomeneo, and the Governess The Turn of the Screw in opera scenes. Maryam was a 2026 Alvarez Emerging Artist at Garsington Opera, where she covered the roles of La Fortuna/ Giunone Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria. This autumn, she joins the Academy of Ancient Music for a concert tour of L’incoronazione di Poppea, performing the role of Drusilla under the direction of Laurence Cummings.

A keen interpreter of song repertoire, Maryam was awarded the Prix Thierry Mermod for her performances at the 2025 Verbier Festival’s Academy Atelier Lyrique. She performed as a ‘Rising Star of Voice’ at both the 2025 Edinburgh International Festival and 2025 Shipston Song Festival, and as a Waverley Young Artist at the 2026 Ryedale Festival. This autumn she joins the 2026/27 Oxford Song Young Artist Programme with duo partner Archie Bonham.
