Ted Black

Tenor, Samling Artist Programme: 2021

Born and raised in London, tenor Ted Black is currently based in Vienna, as a soloist in the young artist programme of the Wiener Staatsoper. His roles at the Staatsoper this season include Roderigo Otello; Amante Il Tabarro; Tebaldo I Vespri Siciliani; Ulrich Eißlinger Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg and covers include Ferrando Così fan Tutte; Chevalier de la Force Dialogues des Carmélites and Ferdinand The Tempest. He is also a very active singer of Lieder and concert works, and this season has performed his all French recital Une Saison en Enfer at the Musée d’Orsay at at Opéra de Lille, before bringing the programme to the Oxford International Song Festival later this year. Another highlight of this season is a gala concert at the Royaumont Abbey with sopranos Natalie Dessay and Véronique Gens.

Last summer, Ted recorded his first full length studio album, Hold Fast to Dreams, a recording of the songs of Florence Price. He can also be heard with his duo partner, Dylan Perez, on the album Voyage à Paris, on the French record label, B-Records. Next season he will be a resident soloist at Oper Graz, where his roles will include Walther Tannhäuser; Ferrando Così Fan Tutte and Lysander A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
