Samling Artist Profile: Christopher Nairne

Today we’re profiling baritone Christopher Nairne, one of eight Samling Artists on stage at Sage Gateshead this weekend in our public Masterclass led by three world-class professionals.

Christopher lives in Glasgow and is currently in his second year at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland Opera School, where his operatic roles have included Pelléas in Pelléas et Mélisande and the title roles in both Don Giovanni and Eugene Onegin.

Alongside his career as a baritone Christopher also teaches singing in Glasgow and he has worked on education and outreach programmes for both Scottish Opera and the award-winning Scottish ensemble Capella Nova.

Bachtrack has praised his ‘dangerously beguiling Count’ in Le nozze di Figaro, and Opera Scotland wrote that as Guglielmo in a recent performance of Così fan tutte he ‘showed a genuine comic flair to match his superb singing’.

Christopher will be joined by seven other Samling Artists in a public Masterclass and Concert on Saturday 27 February at Sage Two, Sage Gateshead, led by internationally-renowned mezzo Ann Murray DBE, the great German baritone Olaf Bär and Royal Opera House pianist Caroline Dowdle. Visit the Sage Gateshead website or call 0191 443 4661 to book tickets.
