Samling Artist Profile: Filipa van Eck

In the first of a series of profiles about the outstanding young singers and pianists taking part in this month’s Samling Artist Programme, today we are introducing South African/Portuguese soprano Filipa van Eck.

Filipa is a graduate of the Royal College of Music International Opera School where she was the Kiri Te Kanawa scholar.

Prior to this she studied at the University of Cape Town completing a Bachelor of Music in Western Classical Performance and Postgraduate Diploma in Opera.

Recent reviews have said that Filipa ‘sings with ravishing beauty’ (Bachtrack), and praised her as ‘a beautifully focused soprano and an eye-catching presence’ (Financial Times).

Filipa will be joined by seven other Samling Artists in a public Masterclass and Concert next Saturday 28 November at Sage Two, Sage Gateshead, led by internationally-renowned soprano Joan Rodgers and pianist Malcolm Martineau, as well as David Gowland, Artistic Director of the Royal Opera’s Jette Parker Young Artists Programme, and Broadway theatre and opera director Tim Carroll. Tickets are available from Sage Gateshead’s website or by calling 0191 443 4661.
