David Smith

Born in Stockport, David completed a BMus at the University of Birmingham before moving to the Royal Academy of Music where he studied with Michael Dussek and Vanessa Latarche. After graduating with distinction he was awarded the Shinn Junior Fellowship working with the vocal department.

David’s many competition successes include the final of the Birmingham Accompanist of the Year, Vivian Langrish accompanists’ prize, Michael Head and Bliss prizes for accompaniment as well as the Christian Carpenter prize, awarded in recognition of his achievements at the Academy.

He has worked with many of the exceptional performers of his generation including James Rutherford, Sarah Tynan, Martene Grimson, Benedict Nelson and Ida Falk Winland and has appeared at many of the major UK venues including Wigmore Hall, St John’s Smith Square, Colston Hall, Symphony Hall Birmingham and Pittville Pump Room. He has also performed at some of the major UK music festivals with artists including cellist Maisie Lewis, Award Winner Katherine Jenkinson and BBC Young Musician Finalist Huw Morgan.

David has participated in masterclasses with Malcolm Martineau, Sarah Walker, Philip Langridge, Julius Drake and Rudolf Jansen and was chosen to participate in the Young Songmakers’ Almanac led by Graham Johnson. David’s future performances include planned recitals with Hakan Vramsmo, Gweneth Ann Jeffers, Ronan Collett and Lisa Milne.
