Sofia Serra

Having graduated from Escola Superior de Musica e das Artes do Espectaculo in Porto, Portugal, Sofia obtained a Master of Music degree and completed her doctorate on Music Psychology – Singing at the University of Sheffield. Also completing a Masters degree at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Whist completing her degrees she studied with Fernanda Correia and Rudolf Piernay.

Major achievements include 2nd prize in the 2005 Tracey Chadwell Memorial competition and in the same year took part inJovens Empreendedores XXI, a cultural project about opera and architecture in Santa Maria da Feira – Portugal.

Sofia has taken part in masterclasses with many respected singers including: Johanna Peters, Jill Feldman, Norma Graça-Silvestre, António Salgado, Charles Spencer, Gundula Janowiz, Graham Jonhson, Nancy Argenta, Emma Kirkby, Sarah Walker, Patrícia Rozario, Sir Thomas Allen and Ileana Cotrubas.

Sofia has sung soprano roles in opera, oratorio and Lied as well as performing in various national and international music  festivals, CD recordings and in live transmissions on RTP and BBC.

She currently works as a singing teacher at Porto’s arts school Universidade Catolica Portuguesa, and is a researcher at the Research Center for Science and Technology in Art (CITAR) and Research Center in Human Development.
