Six Samling Artists join forces with Royal Northern Sinfonia and conductor Nicholas McGegan for a special concert in Sage One. Two exuberant baroque choral works frame Caroline Shaw’s beautiful Is a rose for baroque orchestra and mezzo-soprano which receives its UK premiere at this concert. Is a rose begins with a setting of ‘The Edge’ by Newcastle-based poet Jacob Polley, followed by Caroline Shaw’s own text ‘And so’ and ending with Robert Burns’s much-loved ‘Red, red rose’.
